Cabrillo 2

See all those people in the background? They were trying to figure out how we got down to the cool places where we were - they were SO jealous!
Here's a girl with her daddy

Our oldest child learning to take pictures

We weren't allowed to take any shells from this beach. Here are the coolest ones that we REALLY wanted to take, but kept the rules and left there

Shells and Anenomes

In the tide pools we found lots of crabs and loved touching the anenomes and having them grab onto our fingers.

We also came across these cool clusters of shells - surrounded by the sea lettuce...yum!

Cabrillo Lighthouse

So, following up on some advice from the locals at church, we headed out to the Cabrillo Lighthouse. We didn't even stop to see the lighthouse, but had a blast in this area. We checked the tidal times before we headed out and then went out to check the tide pools at low tide.
We were able to hike down to an area that was in the ocean.

BTW, we don't know where the Colordao Rockies sweatshirt came from. It was found in our closet - if you recognize it and can claim it, you might be able to get it back. If not, please know that it is being put to good use!

At the bottom, as we explored, we found a really cool water cave. The water would hit it, coming in at the right and then flow all the way around the back wall towards the left. While the exposure of this picture is awful, it was such a cool place. Our little one is holding her ears from the crash of the surf as it echoed throughout the cave.

Coronado Island and Mission Bay

On Monday we headed to Silver Strand State Park Beach on Coronado Island (what a gorgeous island - penninsula actually, but so beautiful!) While the skies were cloudy, we enjoyed wave jumping, boogy boarding, sandcastles, shell collecting, runs along the beach and finding sand dollars in the ocean.

Here is our champion boogy boarder - she just had a knack for catching the crests of the waves and riding them all the way back onto the beach!

We headed back to the hotel and somehow those girls convinced us that the swimming pool water would be warmer than the ocean was...it definitely wasn't! After cleaning up, we headed out and walked through the Gaslamp district...really just a bunch of over priced restaurants. We did find a hat shop we all enjoyed, and then headed out to Mission Bay. We headed out onto the pier and had fun watching the fishermen.

We ended our evening stopping for some ice cream and telling silly jokes.

La Jolla Cove

We got to watch this guy come in from the ocean

He was really cute

We searched around for some shells and just enjoyed being on the beach. The water was pretty cold, and my slip ended up getting splashed and hanging way down below my skirt hemline...just gotta laugh at that

San Diego

The next morning in St. George we had a great breakfast, a swim, and then finally decided on our ultimate destination - San Diego. We booked our hotel room, and headed on our way.

We stopped at a grocery store that evening and stocked up, and spent our first night in San Diego. We headed to church first thing in the morning. One thing I LOVE about our church is that no matter where you are, you can usually find a nearby church and chances are if you show up at 9:00 am, you'll be able to catch the services, and there's a really great chance that the lessons being studied that week will be the same that they are studying back in your home ward. It was great to visit with the members there, and get some great tips from them of things to do and see while we were there too.
We came back to the hotel to have lunch and found our beds made like this

And this

We weren't quite sure what the housekeeper was thinking, but we got a good laugh out of it nonetheless!

We headed out to try and find a beach to walk along and ended up at La Jolla Cove. WHAT an awesome place - one of our favorite places in San Diego. As we parked and walked up, this was our first sight

Zion's National Park

We decided to hike up to the Jewel Ponds (I think that's what they were called)...We were really trying to hustle because it was around 8:00 pm when we started our hike and sunset was at 8:47 pm that night. We passed three different cascading type of pools and passed under some waterfalls which was pretty cool.

Here we are heading up the trail

At our final destination - a self family portrait
(good thing my husband has very long arms eh?)

June Trips

As soon as school got out, we headed out on a family vacation. While we'd planned to get away, we had a tough time decided where to ultimately go and made several of those decisions on the way. Needless to say - it worked out and we had a great time.

We stopped in Southern Utah at Cove Fort where President Hinckley's father grew up. Here are the doors to the fort

Up on the ramparts

After spending time at Cove Fort, we headed south to St. George Utah. On our way, we took a side trip through Zion's National Park. While my husband had been there, I never had. We wished that we had much more time, but saw some turkeys running along the road side. Later on, we saw them nesting in the trees - that was a little odd...

Just look up!

I've had a really weird, really off week this week. I figured, getting back from vacation, we'd get into the summer groove and everything would sort of fall into place.

Not so - weird off the wall things have been going on for the past three days. Just out of the blue things that needed to be attended to, which were out of the ordinary - not bad, just different. As such, as each day has sped forth in it's own unpredictable direction, I haven't taken the time to get my personal scripture reading in as I usually do it first thing in the morning before my day gets going.

Today, I saw a very small miracle in my life. When we got back into town Saturday night we stopped at the post office to pick up the mail. There were some payments for my business totaling $2,300.00.

On Sunday after church, we started to do a little organizing since we'd just gotten home the night before. I had a couple of piles of bills and papers and other information that I needed and I put it all into a pile to be organized in the study.
The checks that needed to be cashed were in that pile as well.

As we continued to clean, I realized that I couldn't remember where the checks had been placed. I started to have a little bit of mental stress in the back of my mind about this, but I figured they would be in the pile placed in the office.

I spent a little time on Monday looking through things and couldn't find them. Tuesday, I really began to search in earnest. I got through everything and couldn't find them. I really began to feel the stress and spent a large portion of today looking everywhere I could think of to find these checks. I started going through the pockets of all of my clothes, looking into nooks and crannies, and just trying to backtrack to remember what I did with them.

When I woke up this morning I started my day with a prayer that I would be able to find the lost checks.

As evening approached, I felt like I'd looked everywhere and was starting to really become concerned and upset about the situation. I such a strong need to find peace in my life and I knew that the peace I was seeking is the peace that I find in the scriptures. I said another prayer, asking for peace and began to read. While I read, I found peace. Regardless that I was reading about King David at war with his sons and their battles - it was an internal peace from Heavenly Father letting me know that everything was going to be fine. I closed my eyes and dozed off.

When I awoke, I continued my search the nooks and crannies, and then I headed into my study for another search. There, I just happened to glance up. There on the wall in a mail holder was an envelope from a client and inside were the checks. (I was apparently a little TOO organized!)

What a lesson - so direct to me. I know that my days (and life for that matter) go so much better when I take the time to actually just look up. It is so easy, but sometimes seems like there just isn't enough time. However, when I do take the time to ask for, and open my heart to receive help from my Heavenly Father, things always seem to fall into place and work out.

I currently have an awful lot on my plate, but am so grateful for this small lesson. Because I can't do it all on my own - I really need that help of everything falling into place, and I need the peace that I find in the scriptures which testify of Heavenly Father's love for each and everyone of His precious children. That's it - my lesson for the day - Just look up. It doesn't take much effort - but boy is it worth the effort!

And We're Back!

Yes, I know - most of you didn't even know we were gone but we were.
We have been on vacation and we actually had a really fantastic time. We had a really tough time deciding where to actually go - we didn't decide until the night before, and then we only decided half way...well, enough to get us to St. George, Utah. We spent the next morning finalizing our next destination.

Anyways, lots of details and photos to follow, but this was one of my favorite parts of the trip. I fell in LOVE with the purple trees we saw everywhere. I loved the vibrant colors in this place and it totally took my breath away.

Hope you enjoy it too!

Shower adventures - I'm not sure why I'm getting hindi script in my title bar, but I was, so I'm leaving it blank.

So, we were recently staying in a hotel on a family trip and I had a VERY interesting experience I wanted to blog about.

We were getting ready for our day and so I jumped into the shower and was about half-way through, when I heard the fire alarm go off in the main room. What does one do in this situation? We were on the seventh floor...so, do I rush out the door with a towel around me and shampoo still in my hair, do I quickly finish up and then get out? Is it really even a fire?

Several years ago, we were staying in a hotel in Guatemala on the fifth floor...it was my birthday. Around 5:00 am, the fire alarm went off - we could hear all of the fire doors slamming shut, the lights were flashing, and alarm screaming throughout the entire building. We jumped out of bed, grabbed our passports, threw on some clothes and sped down the stairs. When we got there, we were the only guests that had even responded. The cook had burned something in the kitchen. That's how I started my 32nd birthday.

So - here I was with de javeaux. Was it just something the cook had burned? Should I really panic?

My husband called down to the front desk and asked if there was a fire because our alarm was sounding. They said it was just our room and that they'd send up maintenance right away.

Well, that got me out of the shower pretty quickly. I didn't really want to be running around trying to get dressed as they walked through our room trying to determine what was on fire.

I dashed out and quickly dressed. Finally, the alarm stopped. An individual from the maintenance department arrived with a ladder and a battery. Then he noticed my wet hair. "Did you just take a shower?" he asked. "Yes" I answered. "Did you leave the bathroom door open while you showered?" Once again, I answered in the affirmative.

"I think the steam from your shower set off the alarm - it is very sensitive."

With that he left. Everyone else showered with the bathroom door tightly closed.

Slave Labor

Yep - we are ALL for that slave labor.
This weekend we decided that it was high time our kids started earning their keep and so our daughter learned how to mow the lawn.

While she really didn't enjoy the job, I think it is hers for the next 10 or so years - she will have so much character built by then!

Birthday Photos

You've got to LOVE those days when things don't quite go as you planned.
We planned a birthday party for our daughter at the local bowling alley. We got online and checked their hours and then sent out the invites. We didn't realize that their operating hours and summer season directly coincides with the school calendar.

As such, we arrived and realized that the bowling alley was closed and wouldn't be opening for another 40 minutes. Good thing there was a pizza place nearby. While we hadn't planned on it, we moved the party to the pizza place and fed everyone while we waited for the bowling place to open. Good thing these kids were so flexible - I felt like a dummy!

Here she is with her cake

And the Tinkerbell cake (she doesn't really LOVE tinkerbell, but when I went for the matching plates/tablecloth etc. combo - that was the best they had, so I carried out the theme)

Here is she is opening her gifts...she got a knitting loom thingy that she has already made a winter hat with...oh, the endless options!
